The 2009 Amgen Tour of California cycling race was a huge success! With over two million fans turning out for stops in 16 host cities over the course of nine days, California was inundated with racing fans - and potential repeat visitors. And, for the third time, "Work" spot star Levi Leipheimer was crowned champion!
Cycling aficionados didn't let the rain stop them from flocking to eight new locales — Davis, Santa Cruz, Merced, Clovis, Visalia, Paso Robles, Rancho Bernardo and Escondido — that joined Sacramento, Santa Rosa, Sausalito, San Jose, Modesto, Solvang, Santa Clarita and Pasadena as host cities along the route. At each stage, CTTC had a surprise for them at the Lifestyle Festival - a cool branded Airstream trailer covered in California images and partner URLs, manned by DMO representatives in each region. Bob Warren and Karen Whitaker, from the Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association and Anderson Welcome Center, manned this mobile CWC at each stage of the race, handing out over 5,000 California Visitor's Guides.
As a founding partner, CTTC also received recognition throughout the event, including course signage, on-site TV spot exposure during the Lifestyle Festival, PA announcements, online coverage, a full-color feature in Amgen Tour program and presentation of the King of the Mountain jersey. A Sports Illustrated article on Lance Armstrong featured a two-page spread picture of him - posed next to a rider wearing the King of the Mountain jersey, emblazoned with the CTTC logo.
