CWC San Bernardino Showcases California
Representatives from the San Bernardino California Welcome Center (CWC) attended the Los Angeles Times Travel & Adventure Show in mid-April, distributing California collateral to travel writers and travel agents. Along with the Inland Empire Tourism Council, the CWC shared a Route 66-themed booth where visitors could have their photo taken with Elvis. Over 1,700 people stopped by the booth to learn more about their destination! The CWC will host fams throughout the year for contacts made at this show - last year, a fam in May drew 35 attendees.
CWC Pismo Beach Leads Fam
Eight Pismo Beach CWC visitor ambassadors, accompanied by Suzen Brasile, Pismo Beach CWC Executive Director, enjoyed a walking tour fam of Pismo Beach. On a picture-perfect day, the group explored their community to better educate visitors to their CWC. Ambassadors learned about new developments, local history and unique businesses, and passed out visitor information to local businesses.
Seeing Yourself in California
The CWC managers have partnered with several California State Universities (CSUs) to conduct the annual spring survey. California Tourism has received an overwhelming response from various CSUs and their students, who are excited about surveying the hundreds and thousands of visitors that come to visit California. The survey began in March, and will continue throughout April. The purpose of this survey is not just to simply collect data, but to find out how the CWCs can better service their visitors and provide them with an exciting and memorable experience that causes them to come back for more. Once the survey has been completed, this information will be analyzed and used for developing strategic plans for marketing and promoting tourism in California.

Broadening Our Horizons
In November 2008, California Tourism sent a Request for Proposal (RFP) to establish Welcome Centers throughout California, particularly in the High Sierra, Los Angeles and Orange County regions. To date, there are three new Welcome Center prospects: Tulare, Truckee and Salinas. The RFP Committee is busy conducting visits of each site.
Training for Success
California Tourism's goal is to aide the CWCs in becoming incredible visitor information centers that offer extraordinary customer service and provide cutting-edge technology to travelers. To fulfill our commitment to CTTC's mission and to California travelers, we have sought out some of the best motivational speakers to attend our next CWC meeting, April 27. These speakers will educate and empower managers and their staff to become more self-sufficient and develop sponsorships that generate sustainable revenue. The training will outline creative ideas and resources to develop long-term sponsorships that will in turn empower Welcome Centers to better service travelers in California.
