In February, CTTC headed down under for two cool Aussie (& Kiwi) events. The launch of V Australia's flights from Australia to California was a huge media event, and CTTC had the chance to partner with V on an exciting promotion. At the official airline launch party, CTTC sponsored rollerbladers wearing "V Flies to California" t-shirts, who took Polaroid photos of the crowd and distributed them in California-branded frames, as well as a California cocktail bar with demonstrations. On the inaugural flight to Los Angeles, CTTC decorated the check-in area with California scenes and distributed visitor's guides, then sponsored fun in-flight games. In addition to hosting five media on a five-day fam tour in Los Angeles and Orange County, CTTC also hosted a "California Tourism Recovery Brunch" at the House of Blues in West Hollywood. To welcome media, VIPs and V Australia executives to L.A., CTTC provided entertainment, an oxygen bar, a "pill popping recovery station" with a variety of California candies, and a DJ and dancing. Guests included Virgin founder and CEO Richard Branson and Australian singer Marcia Hines.
Discover America week is a series of trade and media expos held in Australia and New Zealand for U.S. suppliers. The program included travel seminars in Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. California had booth spaces and presentation times at each stage. Additionally, each city hosted a series of media events including a media marketplace, media lunch and B2B sessions. The media marketplace enabled media representatives to visit the California booth, learn about developments in California, and receive promotional and press materials. The B2B sessions allowed U.S. suppliers the opportunity to network with and educate New Zealand and Australian wholesale companies. Seven California delegates, along with CTTC staffers, had the chance to influence over 1,000 travel trade and media representatives.
